Dil Bahadur Gurung, MVO, is a respected former British Army officer and lifelong social worker from a small village in Nepal. After retiring from the Royal British Army, Major Gurung joined the British Gurkha Welfare Service in Nepal, where he served for eight years. During this time, he traveled extensively to some of Nepal’s most remote and underserved regions. His work focused on improving the quality of life for ex-servicemen and rural populations alike—supporting education, upgrading school facilities, implementing clean drinking water schemes, and addressing critical community development needs
A recipient of the Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in recognition of his distinguished service, Major Gurung has continued his legacy of leadership and compassion long after his official duties ended. As a founding member of GONESA Nepal, he played a central role in establishing the organization’s mission, structure, and reputation. His vision and mentorship helped GONESA grow into a credible and impactful force for child rights, education, and community empowerment. Beyond GONESA, Major Gurung remains active in several social organizations, offering strategic guidance, mobilizing support, and advocating for sustainable development.
